The author leads the way forward in this pluralistic country that struggles to find the balance between fulfilling the American dream of freedom and opportunity, and respecting diverse perspectives.
She advocates deep listening and understanding the “other” person’s story, noting that “listening does not grant the other side legitimacy, it grants them humanity and preserves our own.” She has walked the walk, not just talked the talk.
